Since the time of the Pharaohs, ceramic tiles were used in various structures for beauty and functionality.  These are evident with ceramic mosaics and tilework designs discovered in ancient structures in Mesopotamia, Persia, and Turkey.

In the 21st century, there are numerous materials now used for structures and homes.  Other structures use for floors, walls, kitchens, and bathroom now include granite, quartz, marble, other natural stones, laminate, vinyl, wood, solid surface, and more.  Despite this flurry of options, ceramic remains the most versatile and widely used.  Most bathrooms still use ceramics because of its water resistance.  As a matter of fact, ceramic is still the best option for swimming pools as well.

Unlike other materials, ceramics provide more possibilities in design because of innumerable sizes and colors.  This makes ceramic the only material possible to create beautiful back splashes and even murals, showing intricate details.  Moreover, ceramic can be hand-painted to show unique, one-of-a-kind designs whose beauty cannot be surpassed by any other material.

Mosaics can also be created on floors or complement accessories such as tubs or sinks or countertops.  Ceramic tiles can also be mixed with glass tiles or natural stones.

It is this limitless possibility with ceramics allowing it to survive over the centuries as the material transforming any building into a work of art or any house into a warm home with traditional kitchen or contemporary bathrooms.

Materials and technology will continue to move forward and advance over the years. Yet, it is almost certain ceramics will remain as a testament to humanity’s ingenuity and creativity.
