*Installing Mosaic Tiles in Your Home

Most of us see mosaic tiles in commercial establishments such as restaurants, hotels, or office buildings and believe it takes professional skills to create such works of art.  However, it might be surprising to think we can do the same mosaics at home.  It may not be as intricate as those done by professionals but simple mosaic tiles in the kitchen or bathroom can be done by non-pros too.

The first thing to do is to get a sketch of your design.  Determine the distinguishing colors, shaping the features of your design.  Some mosaics are done with tiny colored pieces of tiles.  Others break the tiles and use the shattered pieces to create the mosaic.  The color of the grout likewise assist in distinguishing the shapes or figures in your mosaic.

Prepare the surface where the mosaic will be laid.  Before putting tile cement, test your mosaic pattern on the surface and find out how the finished product will be laid out.  When you see that everything fits and the pattern works, put a thin tile cement on the surface and spread it evenly.  Lay down your mosaic pattern, trying hard to keep the spaces between them even and within 1/8 of an inch.

Once the work has been completed, you will not believe how well your project worked.  Your patience and perseverance will truly be rewarded by the compliments it will generate.
